Podcasting & Audio Recording
You will need:
Step 1. Download Audacity by clicking this link.
Step 2. When it's done downloading, install it.
Step 3. Download the mp3 coding library by double clicking this file:
- A laptop
- A Yeti microphone
- Optional: headphones

Step 4. Double-click the file that downloaded, right click the file lame_enc.dll, and choose copy.
Step 5. Open your file explorer and go to Documents > Audacity. Right click inside the folder and choose paste.
Step 6. Plug the Yeti mic into your laptop and open Audacity.
Step 7. Right-click the sound icon in your taskbar (bottom right of your screen) and choose Sounds.
Step 8. Click the recording tab, right-click on Internal Microphone and choose disable.
Step 9. On the Yeti mic, make sure the MUTE button is solid red (not blinking, blinking = muted).
Step 10. Use this diagram to choose the correct recording type, turn the dial on the back of the Yeti mic to choose the correct setting.
Step 5. Open your file explorer and go to Documents > Audacity. Right click inside the folder and choose paste.

Step 13. Hit the red dot to start recording. Make sure to test your sound first by talking for a few seconds and hitting stop, then listening to it.
- To add sound effects or music, choose File > Import > Audio, and choose a file from your computer.
- To remove audio from a track, highlight it and hit the delete key.
- To cut and paste audio clips in a new order, highlight it and hit Ctrl + x, then click on the new location you want that clip and hit Ctrl + v
- To move clips around order, use theTime Shift tool (F5 or the <--> button)
To Export Your File
Step 1. Once your project is complete, choose File > Export > Export as mp3
Step 2. If you are asked to choose an encoding library, click Browse and go to Documents > Audacity > lame_enc.dll
Step 3. Choose a location to save your file and give it a specific name.

To Share Your File
FIRST: Check with your teacher to make sure you are allowed to share this file publicly.
Step 1. Save the audio file to your OneDrive folder (you can access it by looking in your tool bar by the clock or by hitting the Windows key and typing OneDrive. Step 2. Click on the three dots next to the file and select Share. Step 3. Either enter the email address of the people you want to share with or click get sharing list. |
To Embed a File in a Website or Blog
FIRST: Check with your teacher to make sure you are allowed to share this file publicly.
Step 1. Follow the Export & Sharing instructions on the previous tab to generate a sharing link (Shared with Anyone).
Step 2. Go to the audio file in your browser by clicking on the sharing link.
Step 3. Right click in the center of the browser and choose Copy Audio Address. Paste and hold this address somewhere, we'll need it in a minute.
Step 4. If you are using blog platform like Weebly, insert an element that allows you to Embed Code.
Step 5. Copy-paste the following HTML:
